7th Annual Cold Spring Farmers' Market Community Dinner
On March 10th, 2016, Fresh Company and the Garrison Institute hosted the seventh annual Cold Spring Farmers' Market Community Dinner. Warmly packed into the dining hall, over 150 Philipstowners started the evening eating hors d'oeuvres and gulping down some of Max Watman’s finest cocktails. The drink list was headlined by Max’s “Beer for My Horses” - a tequila-based cocktail with Jay Amour’s heirloom tomato water (saved in our freezer), chile seasoning, salt, and a slice of lime. Check out Max’s latest book: Harvest: Field Notes from a Far-Flung Pursuit of Real Food. Some highlights among the hors d’oeuvres included fluke ceviche and Liz Rauch’s delicious sourdough bread. Tall County proved a superb and tireless musical accompaniment, only stopping briefly for some well-earned nourishment.
After a few speeches, the people were ready to eat! Hearty roast pork with mustard, white wine, and onions, along with honey-roasted chicken were accompanied by a potato gratin, layered with sliced parsnip and mushroom. Many ingredients for the meal were sourced from the Hudson Valley farmers who make up the Cold Spring Farmers' Market. Our meal highlighted just how special and delicious the produce and meat is at the farmers' market. It is always lively when the people of Philipstown and the surrounding Hudson Valley area get together over good food, drink, and music.
